This review reminded me of just how much I have always wanted to read this book. Grimsley demonstrates that two working-class boys loving each other, in the rural South, is an act as profound as it is simple. All the same, they take to Ford right away.

Universe and Other Plays,was published by Algonquin Books inand was a Lambda finalist for drama. He was taunted daily until he dropped out. My grandfather was born dirt poor in Northern Alabama during the Depression-- many of the vignettes of this story remind me of stories of his life.

Nothing I have heard can touch the beauty and eloquence of Dream Boy. He does so happily and well at a hospital in Atlanta where he meets Danny Crell, one of the hospital administrators. Something pushed her into having a different life than the one that Grimsley captures. I also remember thinking that soon it would be my turn, and sure enough it was.

I would recommend this to all.My Drowning is a wonderful novel in the Southern Gothic tradition. Dark, or darker, even, than Bastard out of Carolina, the novel is also more lyrical and evocative. Grimsley is wonderful in this genre and also in fantasy/5.
